International Environmental News Collecting and Trend Analysis Project

Absrtact
International environmental policies and regulations are becoming increasingly stricter and more diversified. In efforts to stay abreast of international environmental protection trends, gathering information about international environmental protection dynamics is essential and will be beneficial in promoting greater international cooperation with other countries. In February 1998, the EPA initiated plans to utilize the Internet to collect information on international environmental protection news. On 2006 March 1, this project began implementation following closure of the public bidding process. According to the contents of the contract signed, work stipulated for this project involves three parts: (1) to collect, select, and translate international environmental news from the internet or websites; (2) to analyze trends of international environmental protection and environmental regulations and policies; and (3) to assist in distributing international environmental protection news. So far, over the 10-month period that this project has been implemented (from March 1~December 29, 2006), there were in total 1586 pieces of international environmental news selected and translated, which is about 36.88 pieces of news per week on average, and there were 43 issues of international news published weekly. Daily international news briefs were distributed to subscribers, one news report covering the Sustainable Development Committee meeting was completed, as well as eight feature project reports being completed for those specific environmental topics that were assigned. Three issues of quarterly analytical reports on international environmental protection trends were published. Overall, it is concluded that Hui-Kou Consulting Co. has accomplished our mission and the work stipulated in accordance with the contract signed.
